Authentic Spanish Pan con Tomate

SERVINGS: 1
Time: 5 minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 large ripe tomatoes

4 slices of rustic bread (such as sourdough or baguette)

2 cloves of garlic, peeled and halved

1 tablespoon High-quality extra virgin olive oil

    1 teaspoon Flakey sea salt

RECIPE

Preheat a grill or stovetop griddle over medium-high heat. Place the bread slices on the grill and cook until they are toasted and have grill marks on both sides. Remove from heat and set aside. You can also toast your breads in a toaster.

Take a halved garlic clove and rub it directly onto one side of each toasted bread slice. This imparts a subtle garlic flavor and aroma to the bread.

Wash the tomatoes and cut them in half. Gently rub the cut side of each tomato half directly onto the garlic-rubbed side of the toasted bread. The natural juiciness of the tomatoes will infuse the bread with their flavor.

Drizzle a generous amount of high-quality extra virgin olive oil over the tomato-rubbed bread slices. The olive oil not only adds richness but also brings out the flavors of the tomatoes.

Sprinkle a pinch of flakey sea salt over each slice. The salt enhances the taste and provides a delightful contrast in texture.

Serve the Pan con Tomate immediately while the bread is still warm and crispy. This simple yet flavorful dish captures the essence of traditional Spanish cuisine.

Note:

Feel free to customize the dish by adding a touch of freshly cracked black pepper, a drizzle of balsamic vinegar reduction, or even a sprinkle of chopped fresh herbs like basil or parsley for an extra layer of taste and presentation.

Enjoy!

Bon appétit!
